About Me

Greetings!

Hello my name is Jeff Christy.

I am the co-founder and business development officer  for Targe Innovations Inc.

Also true about me is...

I am a retired five time Paralympic athlete living with the degenerative eye condition called Choroideremia (misdiagnosed until I was 32 as the very similar Retinitis Pigmentosa).

Targe was founded in 2005 with the mission to improve lives through sport and wellness.

...and currently, Targe is involved in two business verticals:

1. adapted physical education for the blind & visually impaired

2. corporate employee health & wellness benefits

Targe Innovations has been incorporated and operating  for 19 years.  We proudly serve:

1. Progressive educators who believe:
> every child with a disability deserves the opportunity to sweat, strain and  smile along with teammates  in pursuit of a common physical goal
> disability awareness for able-bodied children can be disguised as a unique, fun and challenging game that shatters misconceptions.

A game that is  inclusive of all regardless of vision with no further adaptation or prejudice.

A game that I spent 25 years travelling the world in pursuit of Paralympic gold.

2. Smart Employers that believe
> a growing bottom line can be achieved ethically and not at the expense of employee wellness
> a healthy, happy and motivated workforce can be a profitable part of a mission statement and not just a talking point

Why would you talk about your disability?

For the longest time I tried to just be a business owner and not publicly promote my disability

I thought I wanted to be an unseen face in the vast ocean of mainstream business owners.  Just doing my thing - nothing more, nothing less.

I somehow thought my offerings would not be taken seriously if I self-identified or promoted my disability. I even privately worried about euphemistically getting my hair tussled and patronizingly told what a nice job i had done.  Of course that was all in my head.

for more than 30 years I have been an advocate for Paralympic sports and wellness but until recently have been reluctant to stand as an advocate for disability owned business.

I now believe I have a responsibility to:

 > be  visible and encourage others living with a disability to consider entrepreneurship as a viable path.

> demonstrate to the private sector that when given a chance, disability owned businesses can deliver on par and perhaps exceed other suppliers. (...and I am confident we do)

I'm glad you are here.

If you are here to make a difference in the lives of your students... You have come to a company that has innovated adapted PE and Paralympic products where none existed previously.

If you are here to explore the possibility of adding health & wellness benefits to your employees in a way  that makes fiscal sense to a company interested in its own bottom line - I welcome a conversation about how we can set you on the same path as other businesses big and small.

In either case, I look forward to exploring how we can add value to your organization.

I should also add...

If you like german shepherds, hand-rolled maduro cigars, demerara rum or Les Pauls maybe you should say hello as well.

With respect & gratitude ,

Jeff Christy
